The Urbandale Public Library's lecture will be presented by Iowa author and historian, Lowell J. Soike. He will discuss his book, Necessary Courage, which details long-forgotten stories of determined runaway slaves and courageous Iowans who sought and championed freedom on the Underground Railroad. Soike will share suspenseful and heartbreaking tales of desperation, courage, and betrayal, and also detail the critical role that Iowans played in the struggle against slavery and the coming of the Civil War.
