How we live with our history is primary to our cultural well-being. Sometimes the past is too painful to acknowledge and it becomes an agonizing burden that cripples us. To develop a healthy community, our first step is to talk openly about experiences that we lived, our parents, grandparents and great grandparents lived. Slave, enslaver, witness, we all had a role in the past and a role in our collective future. Honesty will begin the healing process that we need as a community. We would like, as a library, to be a gathering place for discussion about racial reconciliation. We can begin here at LaGrange Memorial Library to share, trust, encourage and value one another.
